We will be out on Ellendale today 4pm to 6pm OR until the wind blows us away--
Looking outside at the trees blowing around as I write this makes me think that might be pretty quickly.
We look forward to seeing you in your golashes!
And the University table will not be in action today...
Thanks!
Stephen

Rain or shine, we'll be out there...
Happy New Years and happy rainy day! We're into our second week of baking since we got back from the East Coast and it is good to be back.
Thanks to a rain-repellent Canopy that Captain Ray gave to the Bicycle Bread Company, we will be at the corner of 29th and Ellendale between 4pm and 6pm today whether it's drizzling or not. So come over and say hi and eat some bread!
Important Update: Beth Tuttle has officially moved to Los Angeles! We are excited to have her here! Ben and I roadtripped cross-country with her for 5 days in her Honda hatchback. It was ridiculously fun and the car was more spacious than you'd think.
In other news, Ben has released a new movie starring our little brothers Justin and David. If you're into competitive Bocce ball, you'll love this...

Merry Christmas from the Bicycle Bread Company!
We would like to thank all of you for breaking bread with us this year! We are amazed at all that has happened this year and wanted to send you highlights from the year.
Highlights from 2009:
-- Moving Into Our Neighborhood: In August we moved to an 1897 Victorian house just north of the USC campus, bringing us close to the bread table at Ellendale & 29th that we started in January. Now that we are in the neighborhood, many of y'all have come to bake with us! Many thanks again to Hope International Bible Fellowship for housing us and supporting the bakery for a year as we learned how to bake.
-- Quadrupling Capacity! With equipment that we have steadily acquired this year, we have expanded from baking 20 loaves per day in January to our current capacity of 86 loaves per day. We guesstimate that we've baked around 4000 loaves this year! Having this capacity has allowed us to bake for local events, including a USC School of Cinematic Arts conference and a benefit concert in downtown Los Angeles hosted by Food Not Bombs.
-- New Team Members: Since August, Stephanie Miller, Shalom Sanchez, Susanna Beck and Heather Brainerd have been super helpful with baking and giving out bread. We are excited to have Beth Tuttle back in January, as she moves from Ohio to Los Angeles.
We would like to say a special thanks to Greg & Julie Christman, Brian & Sara Powers, Anthony & Jenn Bates, Dave & Amy Casler, Captain Ray Ellis, Hugh & Frances Gordon, Matt & Jan Gordon, Michael Renov, Steven Lamy, and Ed & Lou Carey and the Hope IBF church for their strong support for the Bicycle Bread Company!
Looking Forward to 2010
Our mission with the Bicycle Bread Company is to serve the community by baking healthy and delicious bread, by providing opportunities for personal growth to local high school students, and by creating a space for bridges to be built in the neighborhood. We are working with our friend and mentor Greg Christman as we tackle the next steps of starting a bakery, including the incorporation process and looking for a retail space.
How You Can Help!
Want to be a part of the mission of the Bicycle Bread Company? Email or call us if you want to help with any of the following. And if you've got any more ideas, let us know;)
--Bake With Us! We start baking at 8am on Tuesday & Thursday and wrap up the bread tables around 6pm. We'd love to have you join us!
--Support the Bicycle Bread Company Financially: We are extremely grateful to the individuals and families who have supported us this past year, enabling us to get to this point! This coming Spring, our biggest needs are financial support for the incorporation fees and for baking equipment, including a high-capacity wheat grinder ($1200) and a food cart ($200).
--Pray: We ask for your prayers as we continue to bake and explore ways that we can serve our neighborhood through the bakery.
Thank you again for your prayers, support and willingness to try our bread experiments (whether it was the Pumpkin Spice or the Baked Bean Bread)! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year,
Stephen & Ben

Thursday: The last day for bread.
Hello everybody,
Tomorrow is the last official baking day until the new year.
We are planning on making Pumpkin bread, so if you were on of the ones that protested the changing season and demanded pumpkin after thanksgiving, here's to you: twenty-two loaves of moist warm pumpkin goodness.
Visit us tomorrow (Thursday, December 10) on the Corner of Ellendale and 29th from 4-6 pm.
We will start baking in the spring on Tuesday, January 12.
Cheers,
Ben

In light of daylight savings...Bread Table 4-6pm!

Hello everyone!
As you may have noticed, it's getting darker much earlier now that we have turned back our clocks...
So we're changing the bread table times to 4pm-6pm at Ellendale/29th! We'll have the good ol' standby loafs: Honey Wheat, Cinnamon Raisin, Rosemary and Oregano Basil...
Drop on by and say hi!
cheers,
Stephen

When it rains..... we really don't like standing on a street corner handing out soggy bread

It's Story Time:
This morning I woke up, put on a pair of ankle socks, slipped into some Crocs, walked outside and started watering our garden. After I had gotten through the basil, oregano and corn (which is now producing ears), I realized that everything was already wet! I attribute this brain lapse to having still been asleep, because the garden most definitely didn't need watering, it rained, and as of now, it still is raining. It looks like this double watering is going to make our garden grow twice as big today. (:
This story ends kind of sad though, the same rain that helped our garden grow, is not going to let us hand out bread today. We just don't find it enjoyable to hand out wet bread to people who really don't want to be standing outside anyway.
So once again:
No bread table today (10/13/09)
Thursday the forecast looks magnificent, and a bunch of our family (Mom, 3 Girls, 3 Boys) will be here from Florida, so please come out some time between 5-7 on Thursday to meet them ( the original Gordon Bakers) and get your bread fix.
Peace out,
Ben Jamin
P.S. If you want some Cinnamon Raisin Bread today you can come by our house at 1121 W 28th and get a loaf between 5 - 6:30 pm. Call us if you have any questions: (213) 550-7645 or (352) 514 - 6132

Happy Autumn/Bread Table Tomorrow!
Howdy from the Bicycle Bread Company!
It seems like autumn has come and now that we've got cooler weather, we are enjoying the crazy heat from our oven as we bake! As of late we've been experimenting with the baking temperatures and rising times our 5 varieties of bread (Cinnamon Raisin, Rosemary, Oregano Basil, Dill and Honey Wheat) and we've been getting higher rises and crispier crusts.
We'd love to have you come by and hang out with us tomorrow at the bread table and try the bread...We'll be at Ellendale/29th from 5pm-7pm. See ya then!
cheers,
Stephen
p.s. We got some beautiful autumn leaves in the mail today from our fellow baker, Beth, who is back in Ohio...definitely feels more like autumn when you have red, yellow and orange leaves on your coffee table;)
